Custer Genealogy

The Custer family origin seems to be of German ancestry.  The earliest known family members arrived in America in the late 1600s.  They settled in Pennsylvania and later, Custer's uncle and father Moved to New Rumley, Ohio.  It was here that George Armstrong Custer (GAC) was born.

The partial genealogy shown below begins with GACs parents and ends with one of the last direct decedents.  As one can see, were it not for Nevin Custer (who was unfit for duty in the Civil War) who eventually moved to a farm in Monroe, Michigan, the direct lineage of the Custers might have ended.
